Hanoi - Mai Chau - Son La - Dien Bien Phu - Lai Chau Plateau - Sapa - Bac Ha
Traveling in the North West region of Vietnam is always a fantastic experience. Along the way you will encounter dramatic landscapes and sweeping panoramas; enjoy the unforgettable hospitality of the hill tribe groups; explore an incredibly beautiful area boasting waterfalls, high passes and terraced valleys. The highlight of the trip is a home stay with the White Thai people, the historic battlefield of Dien Bien Phu and the old, French hill station of Sapa.
Day 1 Hanoi - Mai Chau
We will depart from Hanoi for Mai Chau Valley, home of the Thai, Muong and Hmong ethnic minority people. Tonight we will be hosted by the local Thai ethnic people. (L, D)
Day 2 Mai Chau - Son La Plateau
We will drive 38km from Mai Chau to Sa Linh for a 2hr trek through the hamlets of the H'Mong Ethnic people, then we will continue to Moc Chau plateau for lunch. Overnight in Son La. (B)
Day 3 Son La - Dien Bien Phu basin
We will visit a former French prison before leaving Son La for Dien Bien Phu. En route we will take a break at the ethnic market of Thuan Chau before climbing over the Pha Din pass. Overnight at Dien Bien Phu basin. (B, L)
Day 4 Dien Bien Phu - Phong Tho
We will visit former French military sites, followed by the little valley town of Lai Chau. Overnight in Phong Tho. (B)
Day 5 Phong Tho - Sapa home stay
We will continue our trip to Sapa, arriving early so we can go for a trek before our overnight home stay with the Ziay ethnic minority people. Optional hotel accommodation is available. (B, D)
Day 6 Sapa - Bac Ha
Return to Sapa for lunch with a short time for exploring the town. Continue to Bac Ha for the night. The visit to the market is governed by the commencement day of the tour.(B)
Day 7 Bac Ha - Hanoi
Visit to the really colorful market of the H'mong ethnic people, before departure to Hanoi.(B)
